The New York Palace Hotel - New York City -

Situated directly across the street from St. Patricks Cathedral, The New York Palace Hotel is a stunning building that lends a touch of Roman architecture to the surrounding skyscrapers of midtown Manhattan. The hotel is mere blocks from Central Park, flanked by an endless array of designer boutiques on Fifth Avenue, and close to the citys finest cultural offerings, museums and Rockefeller Center. The hotels convenient location is ideal for discerning travelers looking for a memorable New York vacation.

When approaching The Palace by way of Madison Avenue, youll notice the courtyards neo-Italian Renaissance brick and ornate wrought iron features are a welcoming old-world addition. Part of the Dorchester Collection of luxury hotels, The Palace was built in 1882 as a cluster of private townhouses encircling a courtyard; the 55-story tower was added in the 1970s, creating an atmosphere thats both cozy and opulent. The two-story marble lobby, decorated with warm colors and a stunning chandelier, boasts a grand staircase leading downstairs to the lower lobby. Twin staircases on each side of the foyer lead up to the second floor, the site of the historic red Verona fireplace, a feature preserved from the original structure, the Villard Mansion. In the main tower, constructed of reflective bronzed glass, are 899 guest rooms and a selection of suites: Four Art Deco style Triplex Suites have outdoor terraces offering panoramic skyline views. Eighty-five junior, one-bedroom and two-bedroom standard suites are especially spacious by Manhattan standards. Guests can choose from either contemporary or classic decor in their suites; standard rooms are simple, with linens in shades of cream, white and beige. Each room has a private seating area, a large desk, high-speed Internet access and a safe. Designer toiletries, mini bars and extras, like slippers and bathrobes, complete each room.

The Palaces dining options include Gilt, a dinner-only restaurant with two Michelin stars led by executive chef Justin Bogle. Innovative American cuisine, an extensive wine cellar and Gilts mosaic tiled floors are part of what make this a standout New York restaurant. The more casual Istana brasserie serves seasonally inspired dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The newest addition, an outdoor courtyard lounge called The Palace Gate, serves classic and unique cocktails along with an eclectic menu. In-room and private dining are also offered.

The Palace caters to health-minded guests with a 7,000-square-foot fitness center that overlooks St. Patricks Cathedral. The gym is stocked with modern machines and yoga equipment and offers personal training sessions and complimentary workout clothing for guests to use during their stay. An on-site spa, open daily until 9 p.m., helps guests unwind from the hectic city with a lengthy menu of services, including massages, European hydrating facials, reflexology and detoxifying seaweed treatments. Nearby, the always bustling Rockefeller Center is a mini shopping district with an ice-skating rink to boot. The Palace staff can direct guests to bicycle rentals, Pilates classes and running trails in Central Park.
